When COVID-19 made its appearance, Alexandre White, assistant professor in the department of sociology, quickly sought opportunities to help address questions shaping the responses of the present moment. “Racism has significant physiological effects, and the forces of structural racism affect how and to what extent we can protect ourselves from this virus and carry out effective COVID mitigation strategies such as physical distancing and mask wearing,” he says. His work was featured in the fall 2020 issue of Arts & Sciences Magazine.
